Guest artist for the 2021–22 season at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, Okuda San Miguel’s “Meditations” installation in the opera house’s Mirror Room captures visitors’ imaginations with its dialog between past and future to mark the opera house’s 175th anniversary. Through three main components -a Kaos Star sculpture, the four Soulkeepers, and the transformation of the benches- Okuda sets the romantic ornamentation of the Mirror Room in dialog with his contemporary aesthetic. Past meets the future in the striking contrast between the opera house’s historic paintings and innovative contemporary art.
